The Foiljet MR1

The Foiljet MR1 is a new personal watercraft concept that takes the best features of a motocross bike and jetski, throws in two hydrofoils plus a silent, energy efficient electric motor to create what would have to be a surefire recipe for outrageous fun. The design looks something like a motocross bike, but instead of wheels there are beams with small hydrofoil wings mounted at the ends that can be raised or lowered. The concept would use a 15 kW (20 hp) electric motor housed at the end of the rear beam with its instant electric torque lifting the craft out of the water to become "foil borne".
To cope with shallow water the beams can be raised at the flick of a switch. The electric motor runs off a 48V battery that should see three hours of full load running with the possibility of a theoretical 10 min recharge time.
While still at the purely concept stage Matt De Bellefeuille & Robert Vandenham have come up with an original design that most definitely deserves to reach the prototype stage.
The designers have selected a T-shaped fully submerged foil system which, while not affected by surface waves is not self stabilizing, so it needs constant adjustment of the angle of attack of the front foil to keep the craft level with the surface. Front foil angle adjustment on the Foiljet MR1 is made manually by what would conventionally be the clutch lever on a motorcycle. In larger applications this sea-keeping function is automated with a computer system that measure either surface height or pitch and roll to make constant fine adjustments to the front foil.
Hydrofoils produce relatively no wake and electric propulsion is near silent, so if the Foiljet MR1 makes it into production it may allow current laws against jetski’s on inland water ways to be relaxed around residential areas

Man attempts to "walk" across Irish sea in a human hamster wheel

Thirty-five year old Chris Todd has attempted to “walk” across 106 kilometers (66 miles) of open sea in a giant hamster wheel-like raft dubbed Tredalo. Unfortunately, the plan to cross the Irish Sea – leaving from Wales and arriving on the east coast of Ireland in the South of Dublin – didn’t quite go to plan. Harsh weather conditions forced Todd to abort the mission after approximately eight and a half hours and 42 kilometers (26 miles) into the journey, when he encountered rudder problems.
“I could see the glow of lights illuminating the clouds over Ireland,” said Todd. “Despite the wheel coping well with larger than forecast waves ... the rudders were overcome by fighting the force of the waves, which were constantly battering the side of the raft, and eventually both rudders failed.”
Fortunately for Todd, the accompanying support boat came to his rescue and no one was hurt during the ambitious challenge. The crew attempted to tow the Tredalo back to shore, however the conditions caused the raft to slowly break up before the decision was made to let it find its final resting place at the bottom of the sea.
Todd had intended to use his expedition to raise funds for the Wiltshire Blind Association and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The mission would have required him to walk for around 48 hours straight, which according to him “[would] be like running roughly ten back-to-back marathons”.
The Tredalo craft was originally built for lake and leisure use, featuring a sub-frame, two hulls and a giant paddle wheel. It is capable of supporting a maximum boarding mass of 200 kg (440 lbs) and can host two adults, or one adult and two children comfortably. While the Tredalo didn’t survive the onerous sea challenge, the craft has been designed with safety at its core.
“The wheel has been designed from the outset to be spoke and axle free. This has created some unique technical challenges which have all been overcome to offer a free and easy access and egress from the Tredalo, so that it is possible to leave the raft in a hurry if this were ever to be necessary,” Todd told Gizmag. “The Tredalo has been developed to have a 'topple angle' of 60 degrees and performance in the Irish Sea has confirmed that the craft is very stable even in some quite considerable waves. Lastly, the adjustable hand rail offers the user a sturdy support which really makes the raft feel safe and steady.”
Learning from his sea adventure, Todd will be investigating the options of an upgraded rudder design for use in moderate to heavy seas. “The existing design is more than satisfactory for lakes and inland waters,” confirmed Todd. And for those who want to start a new trend of “walking on water," Todd is hoping to launch the Tredalo rafts onto the market. Tredalo purchase inquiries can be made via his website, with final prices to be confirmed.
“I think that the Tredalo would be just perfect for major leisure parks as it is a very interactive and energetic way to have fun on the water and always attracts a lot of attention. During testing people of all ages wanted to 'have a go'!” said Todd. From Gizmag Info

cave in the cliff NEPAL

Cliff cave in the former kingdom of Mustang reveal his secret.

Skull, human skull, sitting on a rock at the north end of fragile nan remote Mustang district of Nepal. Pete Athans, the leader of a multidisciplinary team consisting of mountain climbers and archaeologists, wearing a harness and climbing rope linking to. He climbed the six-meter high rock with a rope stretched by another climber, Ted Hesser.
When he reached his skull, he pulled out a blue latex gloves to avoid contaminating DNA findings, and gently remove it from the ground. Athans almost certainly be the first to hold the skull in 1,500 years. Soil fell from the eyes of the skull cavity.
He put his findings into a red bag with protective pads, then lowered it to three scientists who are waiting at the bottom: Mark Aldenderfer of the University of California, Merced; Jacqueline Eng from Western Michigan University, and Mohan Singh Lama of Nepal's Department of Archaeology.
Aldenderfer very happy because the skull was still left two molars. Through teeth, we can know the food, health and one's place of birth. Eng, bioarkeologi expert, quickly concluded that the skull was likely to come from a young adult male. He found three fractures that have healed the skull and one on the right jaw. "The signs of violence," she supposed. "Or maybe he kicked a horse?"
But more interesting than the skull itself was a place found. Athans scaled the stone which is located right at the base of a rock cliff brown with white stripes and pink. Near the top of the cliff there are some small caves dug in the rock painstakingly fragile nan. Erosion trigger the collapse of most of the cliff, dropping it to the bottom of the skull. If there is a skull falls, what else might still be up there?
Mustang, royal past in the north-central Nepal, save the world one of the great mysteries of archeology. In the dusty, windswept hidden in the Himalayas and is cleaved by the Kali Gandaki gorge is a lot of man-made caves.
The caves were there in the form of a hole in the cliff giant wavy weathered rock. Others, flocking to the hole when the wind humming along, sometimes eight or nine tiered levels. There are excavated from the face of the cliff, some are dug from above. Many thousands of years of age. Conservative estimate of the total number of caves in Mustang is 10,000 caves. from http://nationalgeographic.co.id/feature/2012/10/gua-gua-langit-di-nepal

MEEP! tablet for kids now available

If product releases are anything to go by, it seems that almost every child is going to be getting a tablet computer for Christmas this year. There's the VTech InnoTab 2, the Leappad 2, the Toys"R"Us Tabeo, and that's before you consider the myriad of child-centric add-ons for iPads. Also jostling for position on your little one's Christmas list is the newly released Android-toting MEEP! from Oregon Scientific.

When the MEEP! was announced back in February, we knew it was going to run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), feature a rugged silicone sleeve and be Wi-Fi-enabled. Now that it's been released, we can fill in a few of the technical blanks and also see how Oregon Scientific is dealing with the all-important issue of parental controls. Aimed at kids aged six years and above, the device boasts a recessed 7-inch zForce touch screen (800 x 480 pixels) which won’t shatter when dropped. It's powered by a 1.0GHz Cortex A8 processor with 512MB RAM, features 4 GB of internal storage along with an SD card slot, and has a 0.3 MP camera for taking photos and videos. While it's running Android 4.0, the MEEP! has been given a simplified menu system, with kids scrolling to navigate through their apps, games, books and multimedia content. Pre-loaded content includes Angry Birds, UNO, Toon Goggles, along with various educational art and learning apps A cloud-based "Parents Portal" on MEEP Tablet.com means parents don't need to pry the tablet out of their child's hands to change settings and controls. They can remotely set what websites kids can access, or add words to a “bad word” list which stops them being used in chats or searched for. Parents can also monitor their child’s online activity, limit play time duration and set a "virtual allowance" – in the form of MEEP! coins – for their child to spend on content from the MEEP! Store. All of the paid or free games, books, videos and apps in the store have been cleared for kid-friendliness by Oregon Scientific. Content which can be installed isn't limited to MEEP! Store offerings, however. Google Play can also be accessed, but only from the Parents Portal, meaning that parental permission is needed before downloading. Accessories available for the MEEP! include music-oriented add-ons such as a portable piano, drum pad, headphones and microphone, and game-focused items such as a joystick, steering wheel or the double play Game-Pro Case. The MEEP! is available now for US$150.

Turns out they really can come true

Turns out they really can come true. At least approaching. Japanese Model Anna Amemiya became famous in his country for always wearing a mask of anime, both when shooting photos or on stage.
Model half-human, half 22-year-old anime made ? its debut in the year 2010 as a gravure idol. He then signed a contract with Excel Human Agency, its first DVD release in December 2010, and even had his dakimakura pillowcase itself. One thing that distinguishes Anna from other models around the world is the head of the anime that became his trademark.
So basically he has the head of a smiling anime girl and a real woman's body, which was (for reasons that are hard to understand) is considered attractive by some Japanese guy. It is worth noting that Anna never takes off his mask in public, so no one knows what his real face.
After a silence for a year, Anna has updated its official blog site, and said that he would participate in a theatrical adaptation of a popular Japanese mobile game entitled Venus Fantasista, which tells about a bunch of pretty girls who form a football club. Because all the characters in its games are anime characters, nothing can better portray one of the characters rather than a model-headed anime.
